The smoke had barely cleared from Friday night's drag races at Salt Lake City's Rocky Mountain Raceway-the first event of the annual two-day Weekend on the Edge, sponsored by Edge Products-when Saturday morning, truck owners were already lining up at the Edge facilities in Ogden for the Weekend on the Edge Dyno Day. All Edge products are designed, assembled, and tested here, and two of its three dynamometers (a Mustang and a SuperFlow) were open to diesel enthusiasts who wanted to see what their machines could do.
This year there were two classes: Diesel Only, which allows chips, custom injectors, twin turbos, custom exhaust, or any other modification, as long as it burns diesel only; and Open Class, which allows all of the above, plus propane, methanol, nitrous, water injection, and anything else to make more power.
As competitors lined up across the parking lot and out into the street, there was an interesting mix of trucks of all makes and some hybrids. The emblem on the grille was not always a match for the engine inside.

While many were there just to see if their latest tweak was producing more horses, there were some nice incentives from Edge. First Place in each class split a $1,500 purse. Dmitri Millard, already the winner of the Pro Street Diesel Class in the drags, pushed his '01 Chevy to 859.7 hp and 1,176.2 lb-ft of torque. First in the Diesel Only Class was Jared Bristol in an '05 Dodge, with a very impressive 657.2 hp and 1,284.5 lb-ft of torque.

Jordan Hendrix's '98 12-valve Dodge used 370 Marlin injectors and a High Tech Turbo HTB2 to reach 399 hp.
The competition is important, but Dyno Day is also a family event, with a great DJ spinning CDs, delicious barbeque, and some of the most meticulously prepared trucks we've seen anywhere in the country. Ken Jones brought Wild Diesel, his sled pulling '42 Dodge WC53 weapons carrier. The truck's 5.9L Cummins is topped by two huge turbos pumping up to 145 pounds of boost to produce 1,350 hp on regular diesel, and it's street legal. The 50-caliber machine gun was optional.
Zane Koch, owner of Wide Open Performance in Sandy, Utah, was on hand to explain the triple-turbo '06 Dodge his shop had just finished. The 700hp Cummins has 90hp Dynomite injectors and a Smarty programmer.

Jason Hurt's hot Chevy spun the dyno roller up to 608.1 hp and 972.5 lb-ft of torque.
With all these super trucks lining up for the dynos, there was plenty of time for fellow diesel owners to lean over fenders and share information about their modifications. While others were drooling over multiple turbos, exotic intake systems, and gourmet burgers, the Edge crew was running the two dynos like a well-oiled assembly line. As we wandered up and down the lines of contestants waiting for their turn on the dyno, we came across some unique entries.
