Marlon Reyes built this ’07...
Marlon Reyes built this ’07 GMC Sierra 2500 the way he liked it. Then he swapped out his favorite wheel and tire setup with a more traditional look so the 8-Lug readers can vote on their favorite appearance.
Working in the diesel pickup industry has made it pretty easy for Marlon Reyes to build awe-inspiring trucks. He’s put together five in the past eight years! As a member of the Performance Offroad team in Bakersfield, California, Marlon gets to build cars, trucks, and trailers for customers every day. “This is what I do,” Marlon says. “Only this time it’s for my driveway. I call this the OG look.” It’s an aggressive, wide- looking rig, and Marlon likes it that way. He built the truck the way he wanted it to look, with chrome MHT Fuel Off-Road Throttle wheels setting the tone. The 22-inch wheels (14 inches wide!) are shod with 35-inch Nitto Trail Grappler tires.
The “big wheel/small tire on a lifted truck” look has really taken off in Central California and is starting to spread to a few other states, too—but not without controversy. There are a whole lot of people who deride the CenCal look and are very vocal about it. The subject of this animosity led to a conversation with Marlon prior to our magazine photo shoot about how we just didn’t think we could put his truck on the cover with 35-inch tires. Marlon boldly proclaimed that he would simply put a set of 20-inch wheels and 37-inch tires on the truck for the shoot. Hmmm…wouldn’t it be interesting to see the truck shod with both sets of wheels/tires? Maybe we could do a photo shoot with each setup and let the readers give us feedback…
Big and wide: That’s the way Marlon prefers his wheels—with smallish, 35-inch tires. This setup has taken on the name “The CenCal Look.”
The idea was born, and RBP stepped up with a set of 97R black/machined wheels (20x9), which Marlon used to mount up the Toyo Open Country M/T tires. We shot the truck in our studio in both configurations. Now we want to hear from you, the reader. Go to this blog and cast your vote for the look you prefer. Get your friends to vote, too!

Chrome MHT Fuel Off-Road Throttle...

Chrome MHT Fuel Off-Road Throttle wheels (22 inches) with 35-inch Nitto tires were the look Marlon was most interested in.

RBP 97R wheels and 37-inch...

RBP 97R wheels and 37-inch Toyo tires do a good job of filling up the wheelwells.

This pickup still works hard, as it pulls a 40-foot toybox and plenty of other things, too.
