Newcomer
I would just like to open by saying that I am a newcomer to the diesel world, and I purchased an '08 F-250 XL 2WD. I have started with some performance modifications-I have the Volant air intake, a Superchips programmer, and a set of 5-inch stacks. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the performance from my stacks. They don't smoke. I am curious if you have any ideas about how I can make my truck smoke. Everyone who I have talked to said that getting a chip, an intake, and stacks would make her smoke, but I didn't have any luck. Thanks for the help.

Here's the deal. Black smoke out of your exhaust is not a sign of good performance. It's a sign of wasted, unburned fuel. Now, when you see guys who are putting out 1,100 hp, belching black smoke is just a necessary evil to get the horsepower they get. For mere mortals, smoke is a bad thing. -Ed.
Fan Club
I live in New Jersey and I'm a big fan of 8-Lug. I was wondering if I could get my truck in your magazine in the future. I have an '07 Quad Cab 2500 Cummins. Although it doesn't have a big lift on it - which I always see in the magazine-it has a ton of mods done. It's a sleeper, except for the sponsor decals on the back windows and the high-pitch whistle from the twins. It currently has approximately 625 hp, and runs a 12.1 in the quarter-mile at 110 mph. Anyway, keep up the good work.
George Well, if you simply send a photo to editor Bob Carpenter at bob.carpenter@sourceinterlink.com, it's much easier than you might think. While our features might include some over-the-top trucks, our Bragging Rights trucks are from everyday enthusiasts like you. We encourage every reader to send in a photo of their truck with some information about it. Please include your name-and your last name too (unlike George). -Ed.

Is there a subscription available for 8-Lug? If so, where do I sign up?

Subscriptions to 8-Lug have been an ongoing question. Here's the deal. We don't have subscriptions. We aren't going to have subscriptions in the near future. You will have to continue racing to the store to find the latest issue before the five copies are gone. Just to help you out a bit, the February '09 issue will be on the newsstands on January 20, 2009. -Ed.
Tangled Web
OK, you have been talking about the website for 8-Lug for a while now. What's the deal? I go to 8-Lug.com and I get Diesel Power. Nice, but not what I wanted.

This is another area we have been talking about a lot. We do have word though, that an official 8-Lug site is currently being built. First they are going through all the back issues and preparing the stories for use on the web. When that's ready, they will launch a relatively simple site that will at least give our readers somewhere to go. No blogging or insider information in the beginning, but it's a start. -Ed.
Care Package
I am a soldier who is currently deployed in Iraq. I also recently purchased a GMC 2500HD diesel truck. I saw your mag on the shelf and looked through it, but never purchased it. My mom, however, sent me a copy in a care package and I have to say this is one of the greatest mags I have ever read. I am a diesel mechanic (mostly Cummins), but the information that you guys put in your mag is great. I would like to have a subscription, but I see you are not offering it at this time. To have this mag at my fingertips every month would be a great thing. The how-to articles are great. I have learned a lot about what mods I will be doing to my truck when I get home. Keep up the good work.

So glad to hear you like 8-Lug. We'll keep putting out the high-level quality as long as people like you appreciate it. We might have to start a campaign to get all the moms in America to buy 8-Lug for their kids though-that would boost sales! -Ed.
