180-MPH!
The Banks Sidewinder S-10 Duramax-powered pickup keeps getting faster and faster. In March, the truck, replete with new Sidewinder snake supergraphics on the side, rewrote the record books once again with a 180-mph run that made it the first-ever diesel pickup to reach that speed in the quarter-mile. The record-setting run took place at the NHRDA Desert Diesel Nationals at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittman, Arizona. Multiple 7-second runs brought the large and enthusiastic crowd to its feet on every run.
Campfire In A Can
OK, we have to admit the photos made us pause...fire in a can, on top of a rug? It’s not a trick photo, The Gas Can by Campfire In A Can is certified to 64,000 BTW and is safe to burn on a wood deck or patio carpet. It provides a warm and robust campfire, an authentic, wood-burning appearance, no loose logs, and no mess. The aluminum canister top functions as a stand and a protective carrying case. Blinging Up The Parking Lot
When Rob Byzitter read a reader’s letter in a previous 8-Lug issue about snowmobilers who have really nice trucks, he could relate. Rob built this super-nice Ford, and one of the things he does is transport his sleds to the riding areas. The truck has a 10-inch Rize lift, 38-inch Kumho MTR tires, 24-inch KMC Rockstar wheels, and more. It’s tuned by Dirty Diesel Customs and pumps out 532 hp and 1,155 lb-ft of torque. Engine hop-up parts include a 5-inch Flo Pro exhaust, Spartan tuner, S&B intake, and more. An RBP grille and side vents give a distinctive look, while the Kenwood 8120 Navigation with Garmin and Sony Playstation 3 keep everyone occupied inside the truck. A JL Stealth console sub and JL 500-watt mono amp really boost the tunes, too.
High-Performance Particulate Filters
CTI (Ceramiques Techniques Et Industrielles, in France) has developed a patented SiC composite particulate filter with IFP, which shows excellent filtration efficiency, high thermal conductivity leading to a very efficient and complete regeneration, outstanding chemical resistance to acids and ash, high durability, and good adhesion to the washcoat formulation proposed by catalyst manufacturers. Consumer Protection Pledge
Long known for its Million Mile Limited Warranty, K&N now stands behind its product and its consumers even more. Sometimes consumers encounter uncooperative dealerships that claim the presence of a K&N air filter or other aftermarket product voids their vehicle warranty coverage. Even though there are laws designed to protect consumers, the problem can still exist, leaving the consumer at a disadvantage and the dealership in control. No more, K&N says. K&N now offers its Consumer Protection Pledge. The pledge states that K&N will not allow a consumer to be taken advantage of by a misinformed dealership. K&N has a team of professionals specially trained to step in, interact directly with the dealership, and resolve any warranty concerns the dealership may have. The Rise Of Def
Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Just in case you didn’t know
Colonial Chemical Company has been awarded the first license by the American Petroleum Institute (API) under the API Diesel Exhaust Fluid certification program. The API license certifies that the materials used and fluid produced and marketed by Colonial Chemical Company meet international standards for automotive-grade urea. Many diesel engine manufacturers plan to recommend API-certified diesel exhaust fluid for their ’09 light-duty diesel cars and trucks and ’10 medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
Diesel exhaust fluid or DEF is an ultra-high-purity urea solution that is used in a system called selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to remove acid rain-forming pollutants from the exhaust of diesel vehicles. The high purity of the DEF is critical to the performance of the SCR system. The American Petroleum Institute is just launching a certification program to verify that its licensees are supplying DEF that meets internationally accepted standards. The use of API-certified DEF will assure that one is using and producing the correct quality of product.
Colonial Chemical Company has been producing urea solutions for stationary SCR systems for more than 10 years. They have been producing DEF since 2006, and today supply it nationwide in bulk and packaged forms. www.urea-scr.com.
