Biofuel Lineup
"We are a small company based in Chico, California, and we make small-scale, fully automated, biodiesel processors and related gear," read the letter from Matthew Roberts of Springboard Biodiesel. "Our machines are not like the ones a typical Google search will find for you on the Internet. Ours are extremely robust, made of 304 stainless steel and all industrial-grade components. They are the Mercedes Benz of biodiesel processors, and they allow you to make biodiesel for less than a buck a gallon. That, combined with the fact that the emissions from biodiesel are 78% less than that of regular diesel, is pretty compelling info." Springboard Biodiesel has sold a lot of these units to small businesses, universities, municipalities, and others who have access to grease, vegetable, or animal oil. We recently learned that Springboard Biodiesel has released the Incosep, which can halve production time and double capacity of some of Springboard's existing machines. Tuff Duty
Toyo Tire U.S.A. is looking to help out diesel truck owners that have high torque, heavy loads, or tow trailers. The new Toyo Open Country H/T with Tuff Duty has three-belt construction that reinforces and stabilizes the internal tire construction. Deeper tread depth and a larger surface area combine for more rubber on the road and a longer life. Toyo Tires, West Coast 800/442-8696, East Coast 888/444-8696, www.toyotires.com.
Towing And Performance Kits
Trusted Performance recently brought to market its Towing and Performance Compound kits for 6.0L Power Stroke engines. These kits are designed to work with the factory Y-pipe, downpipe, intake, and EGR systems. These are complete bolt-on kits that do not require the cab to be lifted during installation. Trusted Performance, 817/736-8058, www.trustedperformance.com.
Fix Your Deadhead
The Ford 7.3L Power Stroke engine is great, but there are some people experiencing fuel starvation in the #8 injector due to the deadhead system (fuel does not return from the rails). Dino Fuel Alternatives has the answer. The Cross Connect kit joins the opposite ends of the fuel rails that are normally plugged, then connects to the return line through a very small orifice that allows any trapped air to escape the fuel rail. Problem solved. Dino Fuel Alternatives, 866/369-5157, www.dinofuelalternatives.com.
Anti-Idle and Emissions Reduction Technologies
Eligible fleets wanting to make environmentally responsible changes to their vehicles can now apply for government grants to offset the costs of retrofitting their existing trucks. International truck and IC Bus dealers offer a suite of products that may qualify under federal, state, and local clean diesel grant programs.
"Our International dealers are ready to help customers improve their truck's emissions by capitalizing on available government incentive programs," said Roger Kuchar, business development manager, green diesel technology for Navistar Parts. "Millions of dollars are available, and it's a smart way to reduce a vehicle's carbon footprint without breaking the bank."
Parts that may qualify for these government programs include:
• Anti-idle technologies
• Battery-powered heating and air conditioning systems
• Fuel-operated heaters
• Thermal storage systems
• Diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC)
• Diesel particulate filters (DPF)
• Closed crankcase ventilation (CCV)
