My Baby

I washed and waxed my truck and took a few photos from each angle. If you would like the rest, I would be happy to send those also. Ever since I started changing things on this truck, I have dreamed one day to see it in a magazine, so even if it was the smallest picture, on the back, covered up by an address label, it would still mean the world to me to see my pride and joy in national print. There is still a list of things to be done like a lift, wheels/tires, custom running boards, interior work...but every few months I add what I can based on what I have to spend.

I love your articles. I have just completed my frame-up ’02 7.3L with an ’07 front end and ’12 tailgate and taillights. No Dumb Questions!

This may be a dumb question considering the magazine is called 8-Lug, but do you only include eight-lug trucks in your magazine?

Not really a dumb question at all. We do eight-lug and sometimes more (10-lug conversions), but we don’t do any ½-ton trucks. Well, that’s not completely accurate, either. See, it’s not a dumb question! We have included a couple of ½-ton trucks in a group shot, and we occasionally include a reader’s ½-ton truck in our Bragging Rights section because, after all, it is what the reader drives.

Love it, Can’t Find it

I was recently introduced to your magazine through a friend, and man, I was blown away. But he told me good luck finding it anywhere. He got his from his friend in the military. So I went on the net to research and learned a lot about your magazine. I found an article from November 2011 about checking the big stores for 8-Lug. Since I live in Dayton, Ohio, I can only assume what the outcome would be if I could get a store to carry it—it would be short-lived. So I have an idea to propose to you. What if I wanted to purchase a copy of the last 12 issues and the next 12 issues to be published and sent you a check or money order for the amount, including the cost of postage. Is this something that might work?

Subscription Saga Continues

I just read in your November ’11 issue of 8-Lug that you’re working on offering a subscription via Zinio. Is there somehow you could notify me when this subscription service through Zinio becomes available? I’d love to be able to get 8-Lug in this manner. Because even though I’ve got a local store that always carries the magazine, I like the ease with which Zinio magazines are delivered and the ability to keep them for future reference in an electronic format. I’ve currently got roughly 20 subscriptions through Zinio, having converted all my print-based subscriptions, and as soon as I can get your magazine in the same manner, I will be a happy man.

That would be especially helpful for the more rural readers who don’t want to drive an hour roundtrip only to discover the magazine is sold out! We Found 8-Lug!

What do you think of my ’08 Ford F-250 Super Duty 6.4L diesel loaded with a 6-inch lift, 37-inch tires, and performance mods soon to come? Subscriptions?
Is there a way to subscribe to your magazine? How much is it per year? I am interested in getting a subscription to 8-Lug and/or Diesel Power magazine.

This is the one question we get over and over, and it kills us every time to have to say, “Sorry, you can’t subscribe to 8-Lug.” Longtime readers know we would like nothing better than to have subscriptions, but it’s not in the cards for the near future. There are a variety of reasons, but we won’t go into them now.

I just read your article (June ’11 issue) about changing the HPOP on a 7.3L, and I saw that they unscrewed the fittings from the HPOP. I know the factory lines are quick-disconnect lines and that if you unscrew the fittings from the stock HPOP instead of the quick-disconnect, you’ll screw it up (someone screwed mine up before I bought the truck) because the housing is aluminum and the fitting is steel (some smart engineer). Is the new Adrenaline steel? And does it come with new fittings? Just wanted to let people know before they stripped out the HPOP like someone did to mine.

We’ll let tech expert (and author of the article) Christopher Campbell answer this question: The Dieselsite HPOP uses a stock housing, so it is aluminum. As for the fittings, steel fittings in aluminum are common and totally safe when correctly installed. Think about all the steel fittings in the average aluminum intake or cylinder heads on a muscle car or hot rod. Removing the fittings won’t damage the pump, either, but cross-threading or overtightening absolutely will. My guess is the last owner of your truck got torque happy with a big wrench and ruined the threads. The Diselsite HPOP also doesn’t come with new fittings, so you need to transfer the old ones over—though not with the factory check valvesprings—and install the provided O-rings. Thread them in correctly and torque lightly. If you notice any leaks, tighten slowly, just enough to stop the leak. Unfortunately, there aren’t any specific torque specs for these fittings, but it shouldn’t take much to seal them, and you shouldn’t be straining. It should have a snug fit. If leaking continues, it’s more likely to be an issue with a pinched O-ring than a loose fitting.

Big Blue is my ’09 Ram 2500 Cummins. The parts list includes: Volant cold-air intake, Fabtech 6-inch lift, dual 8-inch black stacks, Edge Juice with Attitude and Smarty ME, 35-inch Dick Cepek tires, and 17-inch American Racing wheels. I’ve also had a bunch of things Line-X’d, such as: the side steps, top of the rear bumper, top of the front bumper, bed, mirrors, and fender flares. She not only looks great, but she can run with the rest of the big boys—and she’s driven by me: a 5’1” chick with an attitude. Maybe I can get a feature with this!

Feeding The Addiction
I’m reading your new 8-Lug editorial (The Garage), and you’re right! You guys are the reason so many of us can’t wait for the next paycheck to buy that new set of rims, chip, exhaust, liftseven whole trucks! Damn, that new Dodge is wicked! I’m drooling! My wife is crying, hoping next year the resolution will be no more spending on this truck! (I agree). Time to trade this one in and stay longer in that oil patch to pay for it. The truck is an ’08 Ram Mega Cab Laramie 6.7L with an AFE turbo-back exhaust, Smarty programmer, and AFE boost tube plus cold air. The Ram has an 8-inch Rize kit, 37-inch Toyo tires, 20-inch rims, and more.

P.S. Why hasn’t anyone put women+ bikini+diesel trucks in a magazine yet? That would be the best of both worlds, no? Well, guess I’m gonna wish you do soon!

15 Minutes of Fame
I want to know if you would be interested in a truck build project. I'm not asking for anything free like most people. I just want my truck in your mag and my 15 minutes of fame. I have a '10 Ram 2500 Hemi 4x4 crew cab, and I am putting an STS turbo on it. I want to know if you would be interested in doing a write-up on this project. I believe it would fill that gas/diesel gap in your magazine. I am also putting a lift kit on, but it will not be anything extreme. I just want my truck to sit on the same size tires as my wife's H2. Anyway, I have been in the Army for 13 years, and I am deploying to Afghanistan in April, so my super-awesome wife is going to take care of this project. I also talked to the folks at STS in Utah, and they will need my truck for two weeks. If you would be interested in this story, let me know. Thanks. Love The Story
I loved the story "Tour Of Duty" and what you did for Marine Lance Corporal Michael Miller. My nephews are both in the army and have had their share of going back and forth to Afghanistan, and they are making their family, friends, and country proud.
